Please note: that the following Evaluation and Assessment Techniques
are based on a chapter from Treatment Approaches with Adolescents. Zimmerman and Asnis Editors, (1995) New York: A Wiley-Interscience Publication, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 296 pages. Specifically Chapter 5 written by Everett Dulit entitled "Immediately after the Suicide AttemptEvaluation and Brief Therapy on a Medical Ward" is featured, Re: pages 91 - 105.
Dulit is a half-time psychiatrist in an inner city hospital with up to 20 beds for Adolescent Medicine Service where he has, on average, 2 to 3 adolescents on the unit at the same time who are there in the aftermath of a suicide attempt. The average stay is 3 to 7 days. Only 5 to 10 percent, despite recommendations and referrals, actually follow through and obtain follow up therapy.
